Futsal – “Outdoor” Indoor Football

Rain or Shine, There is always Football Fever!

The term, “Futsal”, is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and Spanish fútbol sala/de salón, which can be translated to “Indoor Football”.

Futsal is a 5-a-side indoor version of football that originated in South America. The rules are mostly similar to 11-a-side football, but there are slight differences and variations ― for instance, the use of rolling substitutions ― to allow for a faster-flowing game. A slightly smaller and heavier ball (#3 or #4 ball, compared to a #5 for the 11-a-side game) with less bounce is also used, along with a smaller pitch. Futsal is the only 5-a-side version of football recognised by FIFA. Playing futsal helps develop fundamental football skills such as close ball control and overall technique. In addition, the reduced spaces in the game encourage quick feet and creative thinking, and these skills are also seen to be essential for the 11-a-side version.

In Singapore, Futsal is an increasingly popular sport, especially amongst young football fanatics. With land being scarce in here, futsal is also a good alternative for amateur footballers. In addition, the intensity of the fast-paced game can provide players with a great workout within a short time.

At Fico Sports Hub, players are greeted with 8 international sized, premium quality artificial turfs to choose from. The pitches are designed for maximum ventilation and covered with heat resistant shelters for footballers to enjoy their game of football.

Testimonials

Precious EmuejerayePrecious Emuejeraye, National Defender:

“The pitch here is thicker and better-maintained compared to some other stadiums. With the thicker pitch, it can better absorb the pressure and thus expose us to lesser pain and injury risks.”

Goh Tat ChuanGoh Tat Chuan, Former National Midfielder:

“Fico is a great facility and the pitch here is really of good quality. I think this is a good place for amateur footballers to hold their kickabout sessions, especially with land being so scarce in Singapore.”
